The Department of Classics in the School of Humanities at the University of Reading seeks to appoint a Research Assistant funded by the EU Innovative Training Network (ITN) “The History of Human Freedom and Dignity in Western Civilisation”. Successful candidates will be able to work in an interdisciplinary and international environment comprising theology, history, philosophy, classics, religious history, and related fields, and engage with an innovative training program that allows the candidates to obtain specialist knowledge of a specific research topic as well as transferable skills that can be used in non-academic institutions. Candidates have the option of doing a PhD as part of their tasks and should indicate in their application whether they wish to do this.

 

You will have:

  • International recognized MA in a relevant subject area or equivalent in hand before this job commences
  • Less than four years of research experience after MA
  • Evidence of effective communication skills in English, both written and oral
  • Knowledge of patristics, in particular Origen and Augustine, and core Authors of the Middle Ages
