Applications are invited for appointment as Post-doctoral Fellow in the Journalism and Media Studies Centre, to commence on October 1, 2017 for one year.

 


Applicants should possess a Ph.D. degree in Computer Science, Information Science, Communication or related fields, and demonstrated expertise in application development for large-scale data collection, data analytics and visualization. They should have a good command of written and spoken English and ability to work independently. Those with a multidisciplinary research background; knowledge and experience in data science, computational social science, statistical analysis, mixed-method and/or demonstrated ability in academic writing; and enjoy working with a large interdisciplinary team of researchers to address key problems in political science/communication/social science in Hong Kong or China that are theoretically and/or methodologically significant are preferred. The appointee will be responsible for the system design, technical development of the social media data platform and academic research, grant proposal development and publication. He/She will be key researcher associated with a project entitled “WeChatscope: ‘hacking’ China’s online censored messages”, and will work under the supervision of Dr. King-wa Fu at Journalism and Media Studies Centre, Faculty of Social Sciences.
