Lecturer in Sport and Recreation - Māori and Pacific Early Career Academic Programme

  • Make the most of your PhD and begin your academic career at AUT
  • Permanent, full time role at NZ's second largest and fastest growing university
  • Based in Manukau at AUT's South Campus

AUT's 2018 Early Career Academic Programme offers Māori and/or Pacific scholars permanent, full-time appointments as research-active lecturers within a dedicated programme support network. The University is proactively engaged in growing the number of Maori and Pacific academics at AUT and is dedicated to increasing the participation and success of Māori and Pacific peoples across all academic disciplines.

AUT's sport and recreation programmes are developed through in-depth research and with New Zealand's top sport and exercise industry partners. Our School of Sport and Recreation is growing its offerings at South campus and, eventually, plans to locate the Health and Physical Education major for the Bachelor of Sport and Recreation at South.

Through the Māori and Pacific Early Career Academic Programme we are seeking to appoint a Lecturer in Sport and Recreation, who will support the priority of intended growth in capability (teaching and research) at our South campus in the areas of coaching, skill acquisition, performance analysis, health and physical education. A large proportion of our pre-degree students based at South campus are of Pacific ethnicities and the lecturer will be expected to contribute to teaching at both pre-degree and undergraduate level. Eventually, they will also help to build post-graduate student supervision opportunities at South campus.

Applicants are sought with the following teaching and research interests:

  • Coaching, skill acquisition, performance analysis, health and physical education

Important eligibility criteria:

  • This must be your first full-time, permanent academic teaching position in a university
  • You must have a completed PhD, or will have submitted your completed thesis for examination by 31 December 2017
  • You will be able to demonstrate a strong interest in teaching as well as research
  • Preference will be given to candidates who identify as either Māori or Pacific, and can demonstrate a commitment to promoting the educational advancement of Māori or Pacific youth
  • You must be able to start between 1 January - 26 February 2018
