Lecturer in Hospitality and Tourism - Māori and Pacific Early Career Academic Programme

AUT's 2018 Early Career Academic Programme offers Māori and/or Pacific scholars permanent, full-time appointments as research-active lecturers within a dedicated programme support network. The University is proactively engaged in growing the number of Maori and Pacific academics at AUT and is dedicated to increasing the participation and success of Māori and Pacific peoples across all academic disciplines.

 

AUT's School of Hospitality and Tourism ranks in the top 50 in the world and our hospitality, tourism, culinary, gastronomy and events degrees are widely recognised and acclaimed by the country's top hospitality and tourism operators. We have a significant number of Maori and Pacific students in the School and we want our students to be well prepared to be leaders in the industry. Having Pacific and Maori academics both teaching and researching is of great value.    

 

We are seeking to appoint a Lecturer in Hospitality and Tourism through the Maori and Pacific Early Career Academic Programme.  The preferred candidate will be expected to take an active role in teaching, in the first instance mainly at undergraduate level. However, there will be an increasing need for postgraduate teaching and supervision. Participation in community and business outreach relevant to one or more of the above fields will be encouraged as will involvement with the New Zealand Tourism Research Institute. The preferred candidate will be an emerging researcher with a PhD in a relevant discipline.

 

Applicants are sought with the following teaching and research interests:

  • One or more focused in Hospitality, Tourism, Events, Culinary Arts, Gastronomy

 

Important eligibility criteria: 

  • This must be your first full-time, permanent academic teaching position in a university
  • You must have a completed PhD, or will have submitted your completed thesis for examination by 31 December 2017
  • You will be able to demonstrate a strong interest in teaching as well as research
  • Preference will be given to candidates who identify as either Māori or Pacific, and can demonstrate a commitment to promoting the educational advancement of Māori or Pacific youth
  • You must be able to start between 1 January - 26 February 2018
