AUT's 2018 Early Career Academic Programme offers Māori and/or Pacific scholars permanent, full-time appointments as research-active lecturers within a dedicated programme support network. The University is proactively engaged in growing the number of Maori and Pacific academics at AUT and is dedicated to increasing the participation and success of Māori and Pacific peoples across all academic disciplines.

 

Communication Studies is positioned at the interface of symbolic, political, cultural, technological and industrial drivers of social development and transformation. The school's vision is to participate in a dynamic and changing world through practical, analytical, critical, creative and collaborative engagement with the practices of communicative action that shape and reflect that world. We understand the accomplishment of this vision is to involve two key components. First, providing teaching that equips students with the technical and critical analytical skills to navigate the contemporary media and communications environment. Second, producing innovative, creative research that advances our knowledge of communicative practice and contributes to society.  

AUT's School of Communication Studies has a strong commitment to increasing appointments of Maori and Pacific staff in academic roles. We are seeking a lecturer in communication studies to provide excellence in teaching and research within our school; this includes central responsibilities teaching in the undergraduate/pre-degree program, our postgraduate program, postgraduate supervisions and gaining high achievements in academic publications.

 

Seeking applicants with the following teaching and research interests:

  • Applicants should be able to teach across core papers in the Bachelor of Communication Studies degree; including Interpersonal Communication, Intercultural Communication and Media and Communication.  
  • Research Interests will be within the broad fields of communication studies, media studies or discourse studies

 

Important eligibility criteria: 

  • This must be your first full-time, permanent academic teaching position in a university
  • You must have a completed PhD, or will have submitted your completed thesis for examination by 31 December 2017 - ideally in Communication Studies, Media Studies, discourse studies or a related area
  • You will be able to demonstrate a strong interest in teaching as well as research
  • Preference will be given to candidates who identify as either Māori or Pacific, and can demonstrate a commitment to promoting the educational advancement of Māori or Pacific youth
  • You must be able to start between 1 January - 26 February 2018
