Role Description


The Department of Archaeology at York is seeking to appoint a part-time Associate Lecturer. You will have experience of teaching at undergraduate and postgraduate level with particular strengths in Human Osteology and Palaeopathology. A Masters degree in Osteology and Palaeopathology or equivalent experience is essential. You will be able to support students in their learning and research effectively. You will take on administrative duties as requested by the Head of Department in order to ensure the smooth running of the Department and will be expected to attend meetings as required.


The main purpose of the role is as follows:


  • To lecture, lead seminars, tutorials and other forms of undergraduate and postgraduate teaching in human osteology and palaeopathology
  • To develop and apply innovative and appropriate teaching techniques and material which create interest, understanding and enthusiasm amongst students
  • To carry out ongoing curriculum review, including module content and materials and contribute to the development of teaching and learning strategies
  • Supervision of undergraduate and postgraduate dissertations. The provision of office hours for students.

Salary will be in the range £31,604 to £38,832 a year (Grade 6). The post is available from 1 November 2017 and is part time working 11.1 hours a week (1.5 days) on an Open contract.
