Applications are invited at the Department for the Study of Culture in the Faculty of Humanities of the University of Southern Denmark in Odense for a professorship in education to take effect from June 1st 2018 or as soon as possible thereafter.

Job description


The position involves research, teaching, supervision and communication, and participation in external collaboration. It also involves leadership and administration, as negotiated.


Applicants are expected to have research qualifications at an international level in education, preferably centered on general didactics or disciplinary didactics.


The professor will be attached to the department’s programs in education (BA, Master, Professional Master, post graduate education and PhD courses).


The Professor is expected to have an international profile and the experience and competence to be able to continue to actively take initiatives in the organization and management of research projects, including applications for external funding, the arrangement of conferences and international networking and assessment work. The professor is expected to be a motive force in academic development in the department’s interdisciplinary research environment. In addition, the position includes participation in the development of the department’s courses and in activities relating to teaching.


In filling this position, emphasis will be placed on the originality of the applicants’ research and production, including its academic breadth and depth, its stringency and thoroughness. In addition, emphasis will be placed on good results in research collaboration and management and on participation in national and international interdisciplinary collaboration. Finally, there will be an emphasis on documented ability to plan and deliver teaching within one or more of the central disciplines of the institute’s degree courses (see the requirement for a teaching portfolio mentioned below) and on experience of supervising masters and PhD students.

As part of the overall assessment of the applicant’s qualifications, an interview may be applied.


Appointment to this position may also include teaching obligations in regard to related degree programs.


Employment shall be on the terms specified in the labour market agreement and the salary shall correspond to LR 37 (pay bracket 37) annually DKK 536.665,33 plus pension (1st April 2016 level). To this must be added a non-pension-qualifying supplement of DKK 52.935,93 (1st April 2016 level) from the executive pool.
