Duties and Responsibilities


The post holder will work within the department of Culture, Communication and Media, UCL Institute of Education and will be located in the UCL Knowledge Lab. The UCL Knowledge Lab is a leading interdisciplinary research centre on digital research and design in education whose mission it is to understand and to develop digital technologies to support and transform education, and beyond. The postholder will also belong to DARE (Digital Arts Research Education), a UCL IOE research centre and a collaboration with the BFI. DARE’s mission is to promote conversations between researchers, children, educators, cultural institutions and the creative industries; to develop cross-arts research projects; to build partnerships with museums, galleries, concert and film venues, schools and companies; and to advise on Arts and Education policy.

 

The post holder will be expected to contribute to teaching, assessment and curriculum design on the MA Digital Media, Culture and Education programme including the development of new modules. The post holder will also contribute to doctoral student supervision within the department. The post holder will be at the forefront of international developments in learning and teaching, be able to assist with student recruitment across the programme and contribute to MA programme leadership and management responsibilities. In relation to this the post holder will contribute to research within the field of Digital Arts and Media Education at a level that is nationally significant with a view to developing an international profile. They will also undertake a range of research, knowledge transfer and/or consultancy activities as well as initiating, designing and leading externally funded research projects.

 


Key Requirements


The post holder will have a doctorate (either completed or close to submission), or comparable research experience within the fields of digital arts, media and cultural studies, digital cultures, digital media production, or other relevant fields related to digital media and education. They will have a proven ability to teach in different contexts and learning environments, including online and show the ability to bring research and innovation into their teaching practice. The post holder will have a sound knowledge of key concepts, debates and challenges in media and cultural studies; appropriate methodologies (e.g. textual analysis, ethnography including online, quantitative and/or qualitative analysis methodologies); and experience of teaching both theory and practice. The post holder must also provide evidence of a developing publications track record including peer-reviewed journal articles as well as a demonstrable ability to generate new ideas and initiate externally funded research and consultancy in the fields of digital media, the digital arts, and learning (in its broadest sense) to contribute to the research themes of the UCL Knowledge Lab. They must demonstrate the ability to work productively and harmoniously in teams and interdisciplinary collaboration.
