Department of Literature, Area Studies and European Languages (ILO) at the Faculty of Humanities operates extensive research, teaching and public relations in literature, area knowledge and linguistics related to European languages outside the Nordic. Department has an active research community with a broad range of international collaboration. Many of the scientists contributing to the general public insight into the research results. The Department has approximately 130 employees including about 80 in academic positions, about 30 are PhD students and postdocs and 18 people are in administrative positions. The Department has approximately 300 master's students and 1,000 undergraduates.

 

University professors of English literature, American and British studies

 

Two positions as Assistant Professor (SKO 1009) in English literature, American and British studies is available at the Department of Literature, Area Studies and European Languages , University of Oslo.

 

The successful candidate will contribute to teaching in English literature, American and British studies at bachelor level of study "English". Within current course portfolio must be the appointee could teach three of these four topics : "ENG1303 - British Literature, an introduction", "ENG1304 - American Literature, an introduction", "ENG1505 - British Civilization, an introduction" or "ENG1506 - American Civilization , an introduction. " These topics are also taken by students on the one-year program in English and lecturer program. If required, it may be appropriate to teach in other courses in literature and area studies in the Bachelor of study in English, and possibly also the Master's direction "English Literature, American and British Studies." University lector, together with other academic staff in English literature, American and British studies help to develop teaching and study environment in the field. All instruction is in English. Applicants with expertise in British literature / British studies can be prioritized.

 

The position is a teaching post conferred 75% teaching, 19% professional development and 6% administration. Instruction will primarily be on the lower level. Within normal work duties and competence, the successful applicant will also be required work outside the department. The appointment is subject to the changes in the subject area and tasks as may be determined.

It is assumed that if the appointee, not master a Scandinavian language, he must within two years master Norwegian sufficiently to be able to participate actively in all functions the position entails.
