Research Fellow in Ethics and artificial intelligence

 

At the University of Agder, Faculty of Humanities and Education, has a vacant temporary 100% position as a PhD student in ethics and artificial intelligence for a period of 3 years. The position is on the PhD program, specializing in religion, ethics, history and society. The position is located in Kristiansand and Grimstad. Accession 08/01/17. The candidate must have masters or graduate with an A or B.

 

We see today a very rapid technological development that raises many new ethical issues, both with regard to the consequences and future development. The PhD position is open to projects that explore the current technological development, with a focus on artificial intelligence. How and what we should think about the current development of artificial intelligence? Is it possible to create artificial intelligence that takes independent moral choices? Is it possible to create morally good robots? The ideal candidate has a multidisciplinary background in both philosophy and artificial intelligence, with an intention to work on both a theoretical and a practical / implementerbart plan. Relevant projects may be in machine ethics, robot ethics, or artificial intelligence, but also more generally in applied ethics, meta ethics or philosophy, within the described limits.

 

The candidate will work in an ambitious and international research which offers education in ethics, philosophy and information and communication technology at all levels. It is expected that the candidate participates actively on a daily basis in both ethics and philosophy environment, as well as at the new Center of Artificial Intelligence Research, CAIR, the University of Agder.

 

The candidate will be supervised by Professor Einar Duenger Bohn (supervisor, philosophy) and Professor Ole-Christoffer Granmo and Associate Professor Morten Goodwin (co-supervisors, artificial intelligence).

 

Criteria for employment as a doctoral candidate stated  Employment Regulations for positions postdoktor fellow, research assistant and candidate . Candidates must apply for admission to the PhD specialization in religion, ethics, history and society. The successful candidate must be fluent in English spoken and written.

Appointment is made by Appointments Committee for Teaching and Research at the University of Agder. The successful candidate will have rights and obligations under the guidelines that apply at any time for the position. The position is located in the national salary salary plan 17.515, fellow code 1017, kr. 435,000 gross. pr. year. From the salary drawn deducted for the State Pension Fund.
