Position Information
Minimum qualifications are an M.A. in linguistics, applied linguistics, and/or language and literature, Ph.D. preferable. Background and/or interest in business-related areas is also preferable. Applicants must have experience teaching Chinese in a university setting, ideally at the advanced and superior levels. Experience teaching Chinese to heritage speakers of Chinese is desirable. This position requires candidates to draw upon in-depth knowledge of the cultures, societies and business practices of the Chinese-speaking business world as well as the broader East Asia region, in order to develop course materials for language use for a graduate level Chinese Language and Culture course. Candidates must have native or near-native fluency in Chinese and an excellent command of English. Certification as an ACTFL/ILR tester and rater and familiarity with standards-based instruction are desirable, as are experience in a supervisory role, for example as a language coordinator.
