The Maynooth University Department of Education is a dynamic and growing department committed to developing innovative educational ideas, school-university partnerships, and close links with the community. It has 16 full-time staff and offers undergraduate and postgraduate degrees to approximately 600 students, based on its research strengths in: Pedagogy and Innovative Educational Practice; Identity, Social Justice and Inclusion in Education; Human Development and Wellbeing. It offers Initial Teacher Education for post-primary teachers through the Professional Master of Education, the Bachelor of Science with Education, and the Bachelor of Mathematics with Education. Its postgraduate offerings focus on professional programmes in Educational Leadership and School Guidance and Counselling, as well as offering a range of M.Ed. options, Ed D and PhD programmes. It is home to the TL21 Research & Professional Development Programme, and to the cross-departmental Centre for Transformative Narrative Inquiry. It is also a co-founder of the Maynooth Research Workspace for Ideas for Responsive Educational Change with the Department of Adult and Community Education and the Froebel Department of Primary and Early Childhood Education. The Department is seeking to recruit a number of academic posts in the near future to build on its reputation and increase its capacity for growth at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels.

 

The Role

 

Maynooth University is committed to a strategy in which the primary University goals of excellent research and scholarship and outstanding education are interlinked and equally valued. We are seeking an excellent academic to join our staff as a Lecturer in Teacher Education. We particularly encourage applications from those whose research focuses on classroom pedagogy, school-centred initiatives, professional education, curriculum studies, policy and/or teaching, learning and assessment. The applicant will be expected to take up a co-ordinator position on the Professional Master of Education, hence experience in educational leadership is desired. The preferred candidate will be able to conduct innovative research in school-based and community contexts, and demonstrate a commitment to conducting national and international research. The person appointed will have a proven record of teaching, research and publication, appropriate to career stage. He/she will be expected to make a strong contribution to the teaching programme of the Department, undertake teaching duties on the Department’s undergraduate and postgraduate programmes as well as the supervision of Master’s and PhD students, and work collaboratively in supporting the collegial work of the Department.

 

The appointee will be expected to build a strong research profile, that supports the University’s research strategy including affiliating to the Research Institutes where appropriate, and working with colleagues on national and international research. The appointee will be expected to sustain and conduct research, engage in scholarship of quality and substance and generate publications of international standard.
