The Department of English is a leading centre for English studies in the Asian region, and has an international reputation for its research on English language and literature, creative writing and professional communication. City University of Hong Kong is ranked among the top 100 universities for English Language and Literature globally, and the Department is entering an exciting new phase.

 

Duties

 

The appointee will work in (1) English Language and Linguistics, or (2) English Literary and Cultural Studies; and is expected to conduct quality research, teach undergraduate and postgraduate courses, develop curriculum, supervise students, and undertake the administrative and service-related activities.

 

Requirements

 

A PhD in related disciplines, with a strong research track record (relative to career stage) and broad university-level teaching experience. Experience in one or more of the following areas is preferred:

 

Applied linguistics, business and professional communication, English for specific/academic purposes, English-medium instruction, digital literacies, discourse analysis, sociolinguistics, TESOL, the teaching of writing, literary studies, creative writing.

 

The appointees will have the opportunity to contribute to research initiatives in these and complementary fields, and to join a team of highly productive and motivated scholars.

 

Candidates for Professor/Associate Professor, in addition to the above, are expected to provide leadership in research, teaching and curriculum development.

 

Salary and Conditions of Service

 

The remuneration package will be driven by market competitiveness and individual performance. Excellent fringe benefits include gratuity, leave, medical and dental schemes, and relocation assistance (where applicable). The initial appointment will be made on a fixed-term contract.
