Job Description

The School of Arts, Languages and Cultures at the University of Manchester invites applications for a permanent, full-time Lectureship in the History of British Art, tenable from 1 September 2024.  Applications are welcome from specialists in any area of British art, particularly its global and colonial contexts, from the late seventeenth through the early twentieth century. Potential areas of expertise may include painting, prints, sculpture, architecture and urbanism, as well as visual and material culture. The appointee must have a completed PhD in a relevant field and an excellent publication record commensurate with his/her career stage, along with evidence of strong future research potential.  Relevant teaching experience and a commitment to innovation in teaching and to enhancing the student experience are essential, as are clear ambitions to develop our links with museums and galleries in both teaching and research.
